    100 Years of History!

Capitol Marine Gears first started in the early 1900's. Here is shown a " Capitol Marine Conversion of the Curtiss OC-5 and OXX-6. "Enclosed is "Capitol" reverse gear and multiple disc clutch, reverses ration 1 to 1. Electric Starter and generator. One pair water jacketed exhaust manifold. New shallow base. Made by Auto Engine Works, Inc.

Photo dates back to 1918 when Auto Engine Works was placing them in High Performance Boats.

Engine Information:

When the OX-5 went into full-scale production in 1917, it was already considered obsolete.  Despite its shortcomings it became the mainstay of the American training while used in the popular Curtiss Jenny.  It was used in new production aircraft as late as 1930.
